Project: Food Budget–Week 19

Look out, world, 2Chili finally got an iPhone. This means he is up-to-date with the most current technology (more so than I am!), and, I may never see him again, as he discovered Twitter is much easier on the phone.

In other news of the week, we have our fingers crossed that we’re going to see sunshine this weekend! So far, it looks promising for both sunshine AND 70 degrees. Considering I’m writing this wearing a thick sweatshirt on June 2, 70 degrees is something about which to dream!

Menu for the Week:

This week is the first week in my two week “taper” in prep for Boise Ironman, which means I should have more time on my hands to figure out what we’re eating. But, wouldn’t you know it, in addition to being less intense about my workouts, I’m being less intense about our menu! It’s a day-by-day experience!

  • ah, a week over budget for you too I see…first time for us. Kind of exciting which is ironic as being under budget is the aim but I knew it would happen one day. Strangely, I didn’t think it would be this week. But there you go.
We make our own cleaning products now btw. Here’s a post I wrote with some ‘recipes’ but actually we just use water, white vinegar and tea tree oil. Much cheaper, less toxins, better for the environment etc…
    Your quesadillas look delicious!
Happy meal planning – what is a ‘taper’ week? So exited you’re doing this (the ironman, not the challenge).

    • Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the link on the homemade cleaners – I’ll check it out!

A taper week is just a week with reduced workout volume. I’m cutting back by about 40% over the next two weeks – which is odd and exciting at the same time. Still lots of sessions, but they are just shorter. It’s amazing how much time I have back!

As far as menu planning, yep, I do typically do it. It helps me keep things organized and be able to answer the dreaded “what’s for dinner” question I get almost every day from a certain someone. ? This week I’ve been lazy, but I usually figure out what we’re having for the workweek over the weekend so I can shop to align. I have been thinking about writing a post about how I plan in the future – my crazy rotation of preparing beans and grains and the whatnot. It’s organized chaos!

  • Yay for taper weeks and for iron man. I have been waaay less scheduled with our food menu, and as a result, less actual food in the house. Oh well.

  • Do you guys really schedule a weekly food menu? Where do you even start with doing that? We have started preparing a whole bunch of different salad stuff, hard boiled eggs etc so that we can just pack them into our neat little glass lunchboxes to save time. That is already quite an undertaking. Tips on planning greatly appreciated!

  • Yes I bet, training must take up a load of your time.

I look forward to your post about meal planning – great idea. I think that’s really the next step on our ladder as already with preparing lunch options for the week that we just pick and choose from has made a massive difference.

    Enjoy the next two weeks!
