New [To Me] Protein Powder
Ever since I wrote a post about the different types of protein powders out there, I have noticed more and more that I didn’t even know existed!
A couple weeks ago, I needed some protein powder so I dialed up Amazon.com and did a generic search for “protein powder” and then sorted by reviews. I have been on the quest to find a powder with absolutely no sugars added, and, I stumbled on this one: Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein.
The reviews were not bad – four out of five stars – and knowing that you can’t please all of the people all of the time, I took a gamble and ordered up one container.
Amazon reviewers seemed mixed on their opinion of the taste, and, I won’t lie to you. It is “earthy.” But, not so earthy that it is impossible to consume. Its protein sources are sprouted grains and beans – so that of course explains the earthiness. The ingredients are such nutrition powerhouses that a little earthy taste is worth it to me!
So far, I have mixed it with oatmeal, fruit smoothies, and some of my cherry energy chews. It was most noticeable in the oatmeal, and gets pretty muted when combined with anything sweet like fruit. It dissolves well, and, meets my low sugar requirements:
I wanted to share this powder with you guys because I’m impressed with the quality of ingredients, and, because it is a great option for folks with GI issues with whey, soy, and other common protein powders. As an added bonus, it has live probiotics and protein-digesting enzymes. Another notable item is that one scoop has 100% Daily Value for vitamin D – something that is a benefit to Northern Climate folks like me!
I am planning to compare this powder with Vega and Sun Warrior as well in the future, so stay tuned for that!
