Friends, it’s here. The long awaited, long anticipated, Ninja Ultima Blender.
I had been on the fence whether or not to buy this blender since its debut around the holidays last year – as you know, I have no affiliation with Ninja and buy everything I review retail – but ultimately decided to give it a whirl.
Now that I have it, what do you want me to make with it as part of the upcoming review?
I will definitely do a green smoothie to answer the most important question, “How well does it puree greens?” But, what else do you want to see?
I’ll give you the first-glance impression so far, after unboxing: This thing is stout. The base is heavy, and, the pitcher is very reminiscent of a Vitamix pitcher. The blade design is a cross between a traditional blender and the special Ninja blades that go up the middle, which I expect to be stellar.
Here is one sneak peek from the upcoming review – a side-by-side photo of the Ultima next to its little brother, the Ninja Mega.
I expect to put this blender through its paces for a couple of weeks, and hope to get you a review in early June.
Please let me know what you want tested in the comments, and I’ll get after it!

Yay. I’d love to see if you can make ice cream and of course whole juicing. Congrats on the new toy and enjoy!!!
Green smoothies! Loving my Ninja Professional by the way.
That is great Eric, glad you kept it and are giving it a shot!
Hey again Angela. I just watched the vitamix comparison video over at steamy kitchen and I would love you to address any issues with removing the cover. If it’s difficult in any way.
ALSO it looks like she had some issues with nut butter. Wondering if you will too.
I don’t mean to compare you to her review but I’d really like to see how you handle the blades and if they were a little scary. They seem a little dangerous.
Oh and one more item. How easy is it to scoop out ice cream, nut butter, etc from the ninja. Whenever I see the vitamix on tv, they never really show getting all the product out of the container. I’m wondering if a lot is wasted. I don’t like waste. Lol
Thanks Angela.
Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your input – it is always thorough and I appreciate that!!
I am planning on putting out part one of the review next week, which includes a general overview and a green drink demo. Then, I’ll do some other items, including nut butter in separate posts.
The blade is not scary to me – in fact, it’s “smaller” than the normal Ninja blades that come in the Mega or Pro. I have a side-by-side photo of the two different types of blades for the review. That said, the blades are super sharp and care must be taken when handling them or putting in/removing from the dishwasher. It is very easy to scoop ice cream from Ninjas because of the removable blade, but I will try to show some pictures of that as well.
Thanks again, more soon!
Angela
Debbie, I forgot to mention removing the lid. It is not difficult, but does require two hands: One to hold down the jar, and one to pull the lid off. I tried to do it with one hand while filming a short demo, and couldn’t. I’ll try to get 2chili to film me taking off the lid for demo purposes.
For what it’s worth, the green drink I just made with a lot of kale in it came out incredibly smooth. It pulverized that kale like nobody’s business!
Nice! Thanks Angela. Looking forward to more details.
Angela,
I noticed on the Ninja web site for the Ultima System that the Ultima BL 820 package comes with a food processor unit in addition to the two single serving cups. Included with the extra items are a slicing disc and a grating disc. The food processor unit has a feed chute like the Mega KS Professional Prep unit. However, I don’t see any ejection slot or chute for the processed vegetables. Where do the sliced/grated pieces go?.
By the way, I entered my name and forgot to enter my mail address. I completed my first comment text and selected “submit comment”. My hand was slapped as a result, but I lost my initial text entry. Was there something I should have done to return to the text already entered and supply my e-mail address?
Good luck on your testing of the Ultima system.
Mr. Bob
Hi Bob,
Yes, there are 5-6 different models of the Ultima, sold in different configurations and at different retailers. I bought the BL800, which is the base model, because I just don’t have a need for a big amount of accessories for yet another blender! ? Based on the photos, my best guess is that the processed veggies go into the food processor bowl itself, like a traditional food processor, instead of being ejected.
Regarding your question about commenting, I am not really sure. The comment form is developed by WordPress, so I don’t really have any input into it. I would say you could probably hit the browser “back” button a couple of times and get back to your initial comment.
Thanks for your note!
