Just a quick note to let you all know I’m still here! I have lots of things on my mind that I want to write about, hopefully starting next week. The last couple of weeks have been pretty crazy around these parts: A re-organization at work has landed quite a bit more “to-do” on my already fairly packed plate, a big focus on our Seattle remodel has monopolized our weekends, and an interest in the Olympics have pretty much occupied every other spare minute of time. So, in other words, my brain is fried, my hands are covered in paint (and other miscellany), and I have hours of Olympics unwatched in the DVR!
But, as they say, this too shall pass.
We will be in Bend next week for a much-needed “recovery week,” and I also hope to do a little blogging while we’re at it.
Here’s a sneak preview of the things I want to talk about. Nothing is earth-shattering, but I have been mulling over these things:
- Choosing supplements and the handful of supplements that I regularly take
- A few ways to spice up your morning oatmeal
- Staying healthy (and not gaining weight) when you have to eat out more than you’d like
- Hopefully a recipe or two
In case you’re wondering what we’ve been up to around the house, we have been working on converting a carport into a full-fledged garage. It probably seems like an odd first project, but it’s for a reason. As 2Chili loves to say, this isn’t our first time at the rodeo. We have learned a few things over the years of remodels, and we have it dialed in terms of what to do first (we think)!
The garage creates the workshop which enables building of all the items we’ll need for the inside of the house. 2Chili builds all our cabinets, so it’s important to have a nice, dry place for him to both store the tools but also build!
Here is a “Before”-ish. We had already started framing in the wing walls, but this was just a traditional carport when we bought the house. Might I add it was very close to falling over – all of the framing was rotten, so we ended up completely rebuilding the structure. We didn’t realize the extent of the rot when we bought the place, but, it’s not unusual for Western Washington. You may have heard a rumor that it rains a lot here. This picture also provides a rare 2Chili sighting!
In addition to re-framing, we also replaced all the fascia boards and changed up the siding. The siding is not quite done – we will be adding a rainscreen wall below the horizontal band. It’s going to be really neat (if you like modern)! And, we are waiting on the garage door we ordered a month ago to really be done.
And, that is what I’ve been up to and why I’ve been MIA! I am looking forward to a week of no projects or deadlines around the house while we are in Bend. Have a great weekend all, and I hope to be back to share some more traditional TKT content with you next week!
