I mentioned a long time ago that when I was a kid, my grandmother made the absolute best strawberry ice cream. What I didn’t mention was that she made it with strawberries that her son, my uncle, grew.
My mom’s side of the family is from Poteet, a small (very small) agricultural town in South Texas, not far from San Antonio. I vividly remember playing with cousins in/around the strawberry fields as a kid, and picking berries right off the vine to enjoy. It doesn’t get much better.
Right now the buzz in the family is that Uncle Ronnie is featured in a commercial. He provides all of the strawberries for Texas grocery chain’s special strawberry ice cream, and they made the trek to Poteet to film a little spot with him. I think it’s a neat little commercial, so wanted to share.

That is nice that you did this. I wish I could send you some. We got ours at Central Market since we don’t have a close HEB. Tell your friend that they have a website. Try that. THe website has recipes,a magazine,etc.
I think Uncle Ronnie is a TV natural – he missed his calling. Dan has been tickled by the commerical and enjoys the “I’ll get started on next year’s batch,” line.
Oh uncle Ronnie IS a natural at this. How adorable. Very charming! And that ice cream looks scrumptious!
It reminds me of the Motel 6 , I’ll leave the light on saying. They are doing other commercials with the other farmers they do business with as well.

That is awesome! ? I grew up on that Strawberry ice cream. Well, the kind my grandmother (Uncle Ronnie’s mother) made with his strawberries. Strawberries are a big deal in the Wheeler fam!
