Project: Food Budget–Week 17

I must start this week’s post with an apology! It is a boring week because I had to travel to Seattle for a very quick trip full of all-day meetings. 2Chili does not need a broad base of food when I’m out of town, and we already had his “supplies” on hand, so I just picked up some essentials to get me through three days in SEA, which ended yesterday.

This means I’ll hit the grocery store for next week tonight – a bit earlier than usual – and we’ll be back on a more normal routine.

So, what does it take for me to get through three days alone? Not a whole lot. Here is my small purchase, made at 10 p.m. on Sunday night! My meetings were catered, so I just had to worry about dinner for Monday and Tuesday, and I treated myself to a trip to Whole Foods, since the hot bar in Seattle locations is wayyyyy better than in Bend. I don’t count that as part of the food budget, since it was more like an entertainment expense.

Total: $12.16

Menu for the Week

I have no menu this week. It’s been an odd one. But, I’ll be back to menu planning next week.

  • Last night, I had some cheese and crackers, and a pear for dinner. Sometimes eating simply is nice. Of course, this was 9 p.m., after feeding and running errands with the kids (they got fruit salad and pizza while we were out and about). So, you know, maybe eating light as well as simply is the way to go when you’ve had to skip dinner.

    • Oh, I totally agree – simple is fantastic! I honestly don’t know how parents do it, so I commend your ability to take care of the kids’ needs while also your own!

  • We only have a few days left in the month, and look at you! You are doing great! I’m looking forward to seeing if you’ll be under again this month! You are the budget queen!

    • I didn’t think I would be under budget until I remembered I had to go to Seattle – only three days in one place is a forcing function to not buy too much. Of course, my food budget is offset by my plane ticket budget. ? I picked up a couple things last night instead of waiting until today, and thank goodness for the freezer – that is what is going to get us to Saturday, when I can get out an really shop.

  • Wow! I totally agree! You are the budget queen!!! I miss those days where I could eat whatever I wanted… I use to eat toasts with hamburger style cheese pretty often for supper… Well now with kids I need to cook and eat real food all the time… Life! Good job this month Angela!!!
