Today, I have something that could be filed in the “Things that Make You Go Hmmm,” file. (Are you singing yet?)
It looks like a Wendy’s Frosty.
It tastes like a Wendy’s Frosty.
But, unlike a Wendy’s Frosty, it actually has some nutritional value.
I made this the other night on a whim. I bought a new blending system that I’m trying out that is like a Magic Bullet, but it’s from Cuisinart. Expect a full review on that soon – preliminary indication is that it’s awesome! It is holding up pretty well against my Ninja, which I love, so that is saying something.
Please excuse the photo below. I didn’t know it was going to be good and was already several sips in when I decided to photograph!
Faux Frosty
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana, cut into 1” chunks (cut it up before you freeze it)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1/4-1/2 cup milk, depending on thickness desired
Method:
Add all ingredients to a blender and pulse to combine, then blend until the mixture is smooth.
Nutrition:
Go make this now!!

I love making those. I also love adding a big spoonful of peanut butter for a small sip of heaven.
Okay, I am totally doing that next time. Didn’t even think of it – brilliant addition!
I am going to use my PB2 that I got yesterday. I had Gastric Bypass surgery and these recipes are great for me!
I used a package of hot cocoa mix for a more milk chocolate taste YUM!
Sounds delicious!
You just made my lactose-intolerant teenager very happy! thanks!
Yay!!!
I used just plain unsweetened Hersey powder, and even with the sweetness of the bananas it was too bitter…would you recommend the sweetened powder.
Hi David,
Hmm, I have never tried Hershey powder, so I can’t speak to that exact powder. I usually use cocoa powder from Trader Joe’s, which I don’t find to be bitter. However, to solve your problem, you may want to add your own sweetner like honey or pure maple syrup, that way you can control the amount of sugar you add. I would start small (1 teaspoon) and taste until you get it to a place you like. Then, you’ll know how much to add next time to make it just right!
Can you freeze this and make it ice cream?
Hi Chris,
Yes, definitely. If you freeze it for 2-3 hours, you’ll have hard ice cream. If you freeze it overnight or longer, you’ll likely need to thaw it in the refrigerator a bit before eating, because it will get really hard.

Hello Angela,
I was a little skeptical with having a whole banana in, does it taste like chocolaty banana?
Hi Katie,
Nope, in my opinion, it tastes just like a frosty! Let me know if you think otherwise, though!
