Weekly Roundup: 2.5.11

After a week’s hiatus from sharing links, I’m back with some good ones this week!

  • A Food Manifesto for the Future – New York Times Blog. This was written by Mark Bittman, whose opinions I really enjoy, and who has a regular recipe column in Runner’s World. He’s got some great ideas here, of course.
  • How to Roast a Butternut Squash Whole – A Veggie Venture. Doesn’t get much easier than this!
  • What a Meat Eater Took Away from Oprah’s Vegan Episode – The Wannabe Chef. A nice write up summary on Oprah’s vegan episode. I agree with the “agree” and “disagree” statements wholeheartedly. Here’s my take: Support your local farmers (join a CSA! do it!), resist the magnetizing effects of Whole Foods (though, not all the time, it is fun to shop there), and, as Evan so eloquently said, “Love the ingredients, not the food.”
  • How to measure a partial egg. – Good Life Eats. Oh-my-goodness I can’t believe I never thought of this. Since there are only two of us, I end up scaling a lot of recipes, and usually end up scratching my head on how to use a partial egg. It’s so simple it’s brilliant!

With that, I bid you a wonderful weekend. I’ll give you one clue as to what 2Chili and I are up to. Yippee!

Oh yeah. This, and there is some big football game on Sunday…something about a super big game?? Since our team isn’t in it, we’re just cheering for fun.

(Yes, this really is me…taken last year in “The Chutes” at Reno’s Mt. Rose.)
