Start Your Holiday Off Right with a Fresh Green Smoothie

Angela | December 23, 2012

The holidays are upon us! Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Pleasant Festivus!

A great way to start your day off right before heading to family gatherings is with a green smoothie. It will put a lot of vitamins and minerals into your system and curb cravings for processed and sugary sweets.

Our realtor sent us a nice box of edibles for the holiday, which included a lot of pears, so that is the inspiration for this drink, which is sweet and refreshing.

I  made this in the Nina Pulse single serve cup, but you can make it in any blender.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 ripe pear (any variety, just make sure it’s ripe)
  • 1-2 handfuls chopped kale
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (does not need to be melted, but it’s fine if you want to melt it)

Method:

Add coconut water, pear, and kale into the blender jar (or cup), and blend for about 20-30 seconds until combined. Then, add the pineapple chunks and coconut oil and blend until fully combined. Add a little more water if needed to thin.

      Hi Shamim,

Sounds like you need green drinks – they give you energy from fruits and veggies and are lower on sugar. I’m not sure what your parameters are in terms of how much is too much sugar, but, I would recommend this smoothie as a starter: http://testkitchentuesday.com/2011/11/23/seasonal-green-smoothie/ or, this green juice: http://testkitchentuesday.com/2012/06/18/juicing-with-the-ninja-blender-part-2/. If you don’t want to strain the green juice, omit the water and 4-5 ice cubes when you blend it. Good luck!

OK this is new to me. I have never put my name out there to some one I do not know. So I hope I won’t be getting ALL sorts of stuff by email.

I just bought a Ninja Mega Kitchen System and love it, but the books they send are not enough. I came across your site and found I liked it. So I would like to try it and see how many new things I can make with you as my teacher. I do wheat-free, dairy-free, sugar-free and gluten-free and to tell the truth it all sucks……So I would like to follow your testings. Thank you Winnie

      Hi Winnie,

Thank you for taking a chance with me! I do not email anything to anyone. That is, unless you subscribe to my feed via email, in which case you will get an email each time I have a new blog post.

If you haven’t done it yet, go grab my new eBook, the Ninja Blender Handbook, on Amazon. It is free today and tomorrow and you don’t need a Kindle to read it – you can download the free Amazon Kindle app and read it on your computer or phone. Here is the book: amzn.to/Xjo6qK

As of about two months ago, I am wheat and gluten free. I have been dairy-free for about a year, and eat very low sugar. So, you have come to the right place. I have lots of recipes in the works right now, so I hope you will enjoy!
