Project: Food Budget Week 20

Angela | June 9, 2011

Sorry for the late post, guys – just rolled into Boise and realized I had forgot to put a timer on this! D’oh!

##########################################################################

This week, I have a revelation: Trader Joe’s Ultimate Vanilla Wafers are pure evil. By that, of course, I mean they are way too good – and dangerous to have around the house!

In other news, I have been thinking about cancelling our current CSA. When I first joined, the produce boxes overflowed with great veggies. Over the last couple of months, the volume of the contents has steadily decreased and the cost has gone up.

The number of items has remained the same at 12, but, the quantity of included items has decreased. For instance, instead of 2 bell peppers in an order, we now only get one – and this has been a trend across all fruits and veggies. It’s jus a thought right now, but I plan to decide in the next couple of weeks. At an amortized cost of over $3 per item, I think I could potentially do better doing individual shopping…

Goal: $75
Actual: $79.21

Trader Joe’s Qty. Extended Price ($)
Mini Milk Chocolate Bars 1 1.79
Mini Dark Chocolate Bars 1 1.79
TJ’s Mini Frosted Shredded Wheats 2 5.98
Almond Butter 1 $4.99
Dark Roast Coffee 1 $4.99
Ultimate Vanilla Wafers 1 $3.99
Medjool Dates 1 $3.79
Canned Pineapple Chunks 1 $1.29
Xtra Large Cage Free Eggs 1 $2.79
Bananas 6 $1.74
Cantaloupe 1 $1.99
Greek Yogurt 1 $2.79
Strawberries, 2 lb 1 $4.29
    $42.21

That stinks about the CSA. Sounds like they got pretty popular. More people than food.
